Diarama – Pele

This week in LS2 I have created an diarama of a legendary football player, Pele. I chose this moment in history due to the legacy he had on brasillian football and the astonishing record he holds which is three world cups.

Pele grew up in the poor streets of Bauru in Sao Paulo, Brasil. He would play with makeshift balls using fruits, taped up peices of plastic, and even just rocks. Unfortunately, when he was just a kid his friend died after a failed robbery as a kid for money. After an unexpected landslide when hiding in the jungle.

He then made his debut for Santos FC at 15 years later just to win the world cup for Brazil 2 years later at 17 years of age. H replayed for Santos for most of his career then moving to the New York Cosmos when his legendary career was a coming to an end.

Sadly Pele passed away on December 29th 2022 at 82 years of age after dying of natural causes.

Museum Trip

This week Panmure Bridge School took a trip to the Auckland War Memorial Museum to finish off our learning about volcanoes. We visited the WW1 section, the hall of memories, and lastly we visited the dinosaurs.

First, I arrived with my class to the side entrance of the museum, it had a big circular mat for our school to sit in. We sat down and one of the guides spoke to the class below us about the class (will be talking about that later on). But as the guide stopped talking we walked to the hall of memories, it was a big cream colored hall that consists of all the names of the fallen ANZAC soilders that didn’t return. But the most intresting thing to me was a big book I closed in a big glass case, It was a big book of names which from distance looks about 16 cm thick. Someone also changes the page every day.

Next, we sat back down for morning tea. After that, we walked to the WW1 section, It had guns and artifacts from the war. Our teacher, Miss Andersons husband actually used one of the guns that were showcased in the section. Known as the 25-Pounder. After that I wrote in a book that wach group was given at the start of the trip. My task was to draw an image of a intresting artifact. Then we arrived back to the mat to eat lunch.

For the last part of our trip, I explored the dinosaur and a class about volcano.  First came the dinosaurs, me and my group had a task to draw a dinosaur and its habitat. I also explored a bit with my friend, we saw the extinct bird the Moa, and even massive eggs. We went back to be guided to the class. It had a red light and a hyper-realistic mini volcano. They showed us rocks and we were even given a challenge to pick out of a couple items if a eruption was to happen.

Shamefully Stain On New Zealand History

LI: To evaluate (form an opinion) the text and respond to the provocation.

This week for Reading I created a DLO of two opinions, I used a story that me and my class read together in groups,

First, I read the story with my group. The story is about the dawn raids and how much of a mark of racisim and trauma it left on Pacific Islanders.

After that I completed the slides of the week (Kupu O Te Wiki), I then created a DLO showing two sides of the opinions. The agree had a valid answer whilst the disagree had a less valid answer due to both me and my partner agreeing with the questions.

Lastly I bloged my task.

The Story of the Dawn Raids and the Polynesian Panthers

LI: To evaluate (form an opinion) the text and respond to the provocation: I read a text about the Polynesian Panthers (old activist group during the 70s fighting against the racist government) It allowed us to learn the harsh reality of racisim and helped us form an opinion.

First, I read the text, it was very descriptive on the dark times of racisim in New Zealand. It described the emotions and the effects of it. That helped us devolep a strong feeling towards racisim helping us evaluate (forming an opinion).

For the next part of my task, I created a DLO showcasing on how some people could disagree and how some could agree. I created this by using an venn diagram.

Lastly I bloged my task.

AI Movie

LI: Use AI to create a movie about an extinct dinosaur. Consisit of the habitats, diet, predators, and protection. This week for Inquiry I created an AI movie about a dinosaur known as the Pachycephalasauras.

I started my task with using notes from a previous reasearch project I had made the day before. I used them to make the AI start the video in time order, I made the notes in time order on purpose. It started with the habitat (where the din0saur lives) I asked the AI to create a video of the Pachysauras to walk through the habitats they live in.

Next, I asked for another video, as the AI I use is only capable of creating 6 second videos without pro. I asked for a video of the dinosaur eating some plants for the diet, as the Pachysauras is a herbivor. It gave me a very realistic video due to the prompt.

For the last part of my blog I created a final video of the Pachysauras fighting off potential threats with the skull of it. (My dinosaur is known for headbutting)

Paired Reasearch Challenge

LI: Reasearch about your dinosaur you were given with a partner using multiple questions. (Habitat, Diet, Predators, and Protection). This week for Inquiry I made a reasearch project about the Pachycephalosauras dinosaur (Packysauras for short).

First, I found myself a buddy and were given an egg that was hatched, we used the fossil to identify the dinosaur. We discovered that the dinosaur was known as the “Pachycephalasauras”. It was a herbivor dinosaur that stood around 6 ft (200cm). It was known for being the dinosaur with the hardest head, they used their thick 10 inch skull to headbutt predators.

Next, we sorted out the other questions, such as their habitat and fun facts about them. They lived and adapted to a lot of lands, grassland, desert, forests, and jungles. They were very adventureus creatures. The fun facts were facts such as the original name, and when it lived and died.

For the last part of our task, we blogged and created the dinosaur with origami skills, but that blog is for another day.

Mary Anning

LI: To create a DLO that tells Mary Annings story from her perspective story.

This week for Inquiry, I created a DLO telling Mary Anning s life story.

First, I researched about her childhood. She was born into poverty (poorness) but around 10 – 12 she fell in love with the thought of dinosaur fossils.

Next, I wrote the information in my own words and then traced an image of Mary Annings.

Lastly I bloged my task.

Pourquoi Story – Why Maungerei Sleeps

Many hundreds of years ago in a country across the sea, there lived a medium sized cone volcano. This volcano was not the normal volcano, it would erupt when it wanted to, and how it wanted to. So the other mountains respected her incase of her temper being lost even more of what it already has. The land around it was covered in old volcanic rock. The so called clouds being full of ash and dust. Anyway, the fire mountain was having a rest when.. BOOM! a mountain erupted and had awoken the fire mountain. The mountain was full of red lava and bloodshot eyes. It exploded creating one of the largest eruptions since the start of time. The whole north island was covered in ash and lava was shooting out down to the pacific ocean. The other mountains quickly evacuated under the ice cold water that lies below them. The fire mountain had calmed down after a long 2 weeks. The other mountains avoided it creating a episode of loneliness to the fire mountain. It had realised the damage it had caused and felt a big wave of guilt. It sat there sad for days, weeks, months.. until, a mountain coming from the ocean called out her name

“Maungarei!”

She turned, confused and happy “Huh?”

She had a very very short temper causing her to be horrifyingly angry, this caused her to have no friends and always be alone. Nobody knew that they could fix her anger just by being a friend. She was the one in the family that was ignored all the time, as a baby mountain she still erupted in emotions, She basically grew up by herself even though she had 4 siblings.

She started to sleep after being lonely for decades, during her sleep the mountains played and had fun, and she could hear it. They still avoided her incase of waking her up again.

The image shown at the start is a photo that I made using a prompt in Adobe Express AI, I asked for the AI to genarate a image of a angry volcano with smooth volcanic rock surrounded by it

Volcano Animation

Li: To understand how a volcano erupts.

This week for Inquiry I created a Google slide to showcase a volcano eruption as a animation.

First, I found myself a group from 2 – 4 people (2), I figured out how it erupts through scientific videos on youtube. The tectonic plates hit creating a reaction from the magma stored in the earth.

Next, I started by adding a cone to simulate a volcano and added smoke partials, and orange and red shapes to create lava.

Lastly, I finished the task and bloged my work.

Diary WW1

LI: To retell an event in history through the fictional eyes of someone who was there

This week for writing, I created a diary from the view of a person that may have lived through WW1. LS2 has been looking through old artifacts from WW1 left from the ANZAC’s creating basic knowledge to make a diary from the POV of a soilder.

First, I had to have some basic knowledge of the ANZAC’s in galipoli, which I didn’t; So I learnt that they had arrived to golipoli in 1915 April 25th, using that to start my diary.

Next, from what I had learnt I used it to create a diary that sounded slightly authentic. There was some unrealistic parts like how my character didn’t write in his diary for 3 months, and some realistic parts, like him feeling terrible for his first kill.

Lastly, I made a video to speak the diary I wrote to make a visual learning experience, that is for another blog though.
