Pepeha

LI: To let others know who I am so they can make connections to me and my place in the world.

At the start of this year I made a visual pepeha to introduce myself to those that don’t know me.

First, I made a copy of the English and Te Reo Maori version so that I could understand on what I was writing using a Maori dictionary and Google translate. I first introduced my Iwi, as well as my ancestors.

Next, I used Google translate to covert that into Te Reo Maori. I then wrote in English that my grandfathers name was Richard. I wrote where I grew up and my name. I converted those two sentences into Te Reo Maori. I then didn’t change the last two sentences because that was part of the template.

Lastly, I practiced the Te Reo Maori version because the next day I was going to record. I recorded outside and added it to the class slide for my teachers to check.

I enjoyed this task because this will be the way I introduce myself. I need to improve at my Te Reo Maori pronounciation. I was good at being sensible during recording.
