Narrative Writing

The sun setting behind the jagged silhouette of hills. The moon was rising as the silver light spilled over the canopy, turning the leaves into shards of glass. The wind breezed through me as chills ran down my feathers. Tonight wasn’t any night, tonight was the night I adventure through the sky. One wish that I finally was about to accomplish. Every evening, as the shadows stretched long across the forest floor, I watched as my mother would stir, her feathers rustling like dry silk, before she launched herself into the abyss, I asked her “Am I ready to fly”? My mother whispered as I got the chills “Not yet but you will one day”. I remained behind, anchored into my nest, feeling like a stone at the bottom of a river as I watched others fly and play around. Not knowing how to fly was tough. The shift from the cozy center of the nest to the precipice was more than a few steps. It was a cold, terrifying night. As I crept toward the edge of the nest. The familiar world of tangled twigs and soft moss fell away. The ground below didn’t just look distant; it looked predatory. The grass floor, which seemed so soft from the safety of the nest, was now sharp greens and shadows, swirling in a dizzying depth. I summoned all my bravery and drew myself up closing my eyes, I took a leap of faith and flapped my majestic wings. Peeking through one eye, the terror turned into wonder. I wasn’t falling, I was flying in the air. The grass that had looked like a distant threat was now soft. I excitedly swoop through the tree trunks. I land back in my nest and I see my mother coming back. I told my mother about what I experienced and I asked her the last time “Am I ready to fly with you?”. My mother confidently replied “yes dear you may fly with me”.  The sun setting behind the jagged silhouette of hills. SLJ (Summer Learning Journey).

LI: To celebrate our success.

Last week PBS (Panmure Bridge School) had their Summer Learning Journey celebration assembly. Mrs Grant came and presented our certificates and prizes. My certificate is for participation. The SLJ was a fun activity to do because the activitys allow us students to let out our creativity.

Rounding

Group 2 in LS2 have been revising on round numbers up to the billions.

Rounding is a useful skill to estimate. In this blog, we will be teaching you how to round. You need to know place values were you can find our example in our earlier blogs. To round you need a base number, I’ll pick a random one. (482.119) if rounding and you see a question asking to round to the nearest tenth you need to realise that the “th” means that it is in the decimal, not the whole number. in this number rounding to the nearest tenth would be the 1 after the 9 in the decimal place. due to the number being higher than 4, we round up. which is rounding to the nearest tenth. which would be 20 in this case. This would change the number to 482.120. I hope that this blog has taught you how to round.

Legs Tally – Step it Up

This week for The Summer Learning Journey, I have done the step it up from the “legs tally” task.

This time for this task, instead of using mathematics questions to teach me about the centipede it gave me a text about the centipede to find facts off for my task.

It gave me pretty much everything about a centipede is inside of that task, and something that was really easy was that the questions were in order from the information being in the start of the text to the last part of the task.

For the last part of this task I just answered the rest of the questions and just bloged my task.

Museum Trip

This week Panmure Bridge School took a trip to the Auckland War Memorial Museum to finish off our learning about volcanoes. We visited the WW1 section, the hall of memories, and lastly we visited the dinosaurs.

First, I arrived with my class to the side entrance of the museum, it had a big circular mat for our school to sit in. We sat down and one of the guides spoke to the class below us about the class (will be talking about that later on). But as the guide stopped talking we walked to the hall of memories, it was a big cream colored hall that consists of all the names of the fallen ANZAC soilders that didn’t return. But the most intresting thing to me was a big book I closed in a big glass case, It was a big book of names which from distance looks about 16 cm thick. Someone also changes the page every day.

Next, we sat back down for morning tea. After that, we walked to the WW1 section, It had guns and artifacts from the war. Our teacher, Miss Andersons husband actually used one of the guns that were showcased in the section. Known as the 25-Pounder. After that I wrote in a book that wach group was given at the start of the trip. My task was to draw an image of a intresting artifact. Then we arrived back to the mat to eat lunch.

For the last part of our trip, I explored the dinosaur and a class about volcano.  First came the dinosaurs, me and my group had a task to draw a dinosaur and its habitat. I also explored a bit with my friend, we saw the extinct bird the Moa, and even massive eggs. We went back to be guided to the class. It had a red light and a hyper-realistic mini volcano. They showed us rocks and we were even given a challenge to pick out of a couple items if a eruption was to happen.

Time Traveller’s Podcast ft Samuel Marsdon

For Literacy we have been using our Inquiry knowledge to help us write questions that we might have asked Reverend Samuel Marsden had we had the chance to meet him and talk to him. This was a fun activity because we took on the roles of Samuel Marsden and the Time Traveller’s Podcast team. It was like we experienced actually meeting him.

We learned that when you are recording a podcast expression is everything! It makes what we have to say more engaging.

A Moment In Time

LI: To write a poem that describes a moment in time

This week after camp LS2 made a poem describing what they felt during one of the task.

First, I downloaded a image of the activity I wanted to write a poem about. (Raft Building) I mostly focused on the weather and water during the poem.

Next, I thought about some rhymes adding it into the poem, such as, amazed and phased, and blow and flow.

Lastly, I designed the background and image, font, and colours.

Pepeha

LI: To let others know who I am so they can make connections to me and my place in the world.

At the start of this year I made a visual pepeha to introduce myself to those that don’t know me.

First, I made a copy of the English and Te Reo Maori version so that I could understand on what I was writing using a Maori dictionary and Google translate. I first introduced my Iwi, as well as my ancestors.

Next, I used Google translate to covert that into Te Reo Maori. I then wrote in English that my grandfathers name was Richard. I wrote where I grew up and my name. I converted those two sentences into Te Reo Maori. I then didn’t change the last two sentences because that was part of the template.

Lastly, I practiced the Te Reo Maori version because the next day I was going to record. I recorded outside and added it to the class slide for my teachers to check.

I enjoyed this task because this will be the way I introduce myself. I need to improve at my Te Reo Maori pronounciation. I was good at being sensible during recording.

LS1 Class Of 2024 T-Shirt

Thisw week for writing I did a task making a shirt representing LS1’s improvement throughout the terms.

First I Logged into a app called Adobe Express.  It is similar to apps like, Pixton, Google drive, or any templates.

Next I went to link that had been linked to the first template. The T-shirt, It consisted of a shirt and a tutorial. The tutorial showcased on how to create the shirt. The shirt read “Class of 20**” along with the other basics.

Lastly I colored the shirt, adding decals, and designs. Making a Class of 2024 T-Shirt.
